Our well equipped ICT room allow members to learn and develop basic to advanced skills in ICT through informal sessions as well as one to one tuition and own inititative learning sessions.


Informal group sessions – Wednesdays 11am - 4pm.
One to one tuition and own initiative work – Monday to Thursday 11am - 4pm.

The centre realises that people's lives can go through transitional periods and these sessions allow members who might find it difficult to attend regular formal courses to drop in a learn or refresh basic computer skills when and as often as it suits them.

National Open College Network

We offer modules through the Open College Network accredition scheme. Within each level, individual modules will gain you credits, which will build up to create a nationally accepted qualification. The units range from

based on the ECDL Certificate.

Soon we will be able to add Video Editing and Music Recording and Editing to the list.

Members can follow a series of 'lessons' based on the qualification "ECDL" or they can decide on their own learning project and follow it at their own pace. We are working towards being able to offer accredited training at the centre as well as the on-line training mentioned above.

Members were involved in the design of this web-site and we intend to enable members to develop their own web-sites in the future.

These topics are offered through the medium of English and Welsh. Although not all topics will have Welsh medium reference materials.

Self-led learning

The IT resources are there for the use of all the members and other classes - the Photography classes already uses the scanning facilities ( a state of the art negative and slide scanner, a high resolution Flatbed Photo scanner and a Laser Colour Printer.

A Music Editing suite, and a Video Editing suite will also be added to our facilities when we have moved into our permanent home.

Word and Publisher

Members are given guidance and training in using both these Programs and use them regularly for writing letters, CVs Creative writing, publishing boolkets of their own stories and poems. creating posters for parties ... ... etc

Members can get an introduction to Databases and Spreadsheets using the popular Microsoft Excel and Access Packages - particulalrly useful starting point for those members who are looking to move towards office employment or simply to improve their computer skills.

Web Design and internet use.

Internet use
Members are taught

How to set up webmail accounts
Safe and responsible internet uses - dos and donts for surfing, email, chatrooms, instant messageing
Downloading and running multimedia web based applications such as Flash or Shockwave.
How to use search engines effectively for research.

Web Design

Members are taught the basics of web design and are introduced to the most popular Web Design Prodcucts such as FrontPage, Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, or Macromedia Fireworks. Members can also learn about

Web page layout using

  • Basic HTML ( the language Web sites are written in)
  • Tables
  • Frames
  • Layers

Web-site issues

  • Making it easy and clear to navigate the site with links
  • Ensuring the home/ first page downloads quickly.
  • Keeping a theme / look for the whole site
  • Colour schemes
  • Image / text balance / size

Making Graphics ready for the Web
(Choosing the size and format carefully)

Members can then advance to experiment with Java script, Java, Flash Applications and other ways of making a theirs an interactive, multi media site. Some of the effects seen on this page are achieved using javascript and java. -
